The Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health invites applications for the position of the Ellen J. Mac Kenzie Chair of the Department of Health Policy and Management. The endowed chair of the department was recently renamed in honor of Bloomberg School Dean Emeritus Mac Kenzie.
The Department of Health Policy and Management is an interdisciplinary department dedicated to advancing health and social policies to protect health and wellbeing at the population level; to developing strategies to improve equity, access, financing, organization, and delivery of preventive and curative health services; and to identifying approaches for enhancing the effectiveness and efficiency of the public health and health care systems to address the most pressing challenges in public health and medicine.
The department's robust educational initiatives offer a broad spectrum of doctoral and master's degrees and certificates in areas including health leadership and management and health and social policy with focused programs in health services research, health economics, and bioethics. The department has 106 full-time faculty, 260 doctoral and master's students, 137 staff, and diverse research and practice activities organized through 18 research centers and institutes.
Most centers are highly interdisciplinary, and many span multiple units within the University.
The Bloomberg School of Public Health is the top ranked public health school in the country with ten departments, approximately 900 primary faculty, 1,300+ staff, and 3,100 graduate-level students. The School is dedicated to the improvement of health for all people through the discovery, dissemination, and translation of knowledge, and the education of a diverse global community of research scientists, public health professionals, and others in positions to advance the public's health.
The BSPH is located on the Johns Hopkins University East Baltimore medical campus. Both the East Baltimore campus and the broader University present a collaborative and highly interactive environment with a superb research infrastructure.
The successful applicant will possess an outstanding academic and research record; an active grant-funded research portfolio, ideally supported by both federal and non-federal grants and contracts; demonstrated leadership and administrative abilities; and a compelling vision for the impact of the department on the public's health in terms of education, research, and practice.
