CZI Post Doctoral Fellow – Howard University
Howard University is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow to investigate the genetic underpinnings of health disparities and develop strategies to address them. The role includes designing studies, conducting genomic sequencing (whole genome, Sanger, SNP genotyping), analyzing data, interpreting findings, publishing results, and collaborating across disciplines such as genomics, epidemiology, bioinformatics, and social sciences.

- Design studies and perform genomic sequencing (whole-genome sequencing, Sanger sequencing, SNP genotyping).
- Analyze data, interpret findings, and publish and present results.
- Collaborate with others to address health disparities in research.
- Work with large-scale genomic datasets (GWAS, next-generation sequencing, or EHR) to identify variants or biomarkers linked to health disparities.
- Perform additional related duties as needed.
- Typical duration: one to three years, depending on performance and funding renewal.
- Advance research skills, publish work, and build foundation for future career.
- Actively participate and communicate in a leadership role during lab/group meetings, seminars, and scientific conferences; coordinate on-site and virtual meetings/lectures.
- Manage time and projects well with personal initiative.
- Mentor trainees and perform administrative tasks as assigned.
- Travel as needed to collaborate on project objectives.
- Write scientifically, including reports, manuscripts, and grant proposals.
- Organize seminars and lecture series for the project and wider community.
- Respond to communications from the PI and take direction.
A Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in genomics, genetics, molecular biology, ecology, bioinformatics, public health, microbiology, biophysics, quantum biology, or a related discipline. Computational experience in Chimera, PyMOL, or similar biomolecular modeling software and programming experience in Python, Fortran, and/or C is desired.
