MDH Garrett County Health Department, Oakland MD

Main Purpose of Job

This part time contractual position will serve as medical Deputy Health Officer for the Garrett County Health Department. Provides medical oversight for county health department programs, assists the Health Officer in implementing State and local policies, and writes standing orders, as well as doctor's orders for individuals. The Deputy Health Officer assist in assessing community health needs and guiding county health department clinical programs to meet those needs.

Provides consultation on medical issues to health department staff and the medical community, including medical guidance in the event of a disease outbreak or other public health emergency. The Deputy Health Officer provides backup for the Health Officer as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Qualified candidates must possess a Degree in medicine from an accredited college or university and a license to practice medicine in the State of Maryland. In addition to the license to practice medicine in the State of Maryland, applicants MUST either possess a master's degree in public health and at least 2 years experience in the field of public health OR at least 5 years experience in the field of public health.

The desired candidate should possess experience creating and managing policies.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Applicants must be licensed by the Maryland Board of Physicians to practice medicine under Maryland State Law. Please be sure to include a copy of your current licensure or license number and expiration date with your completed application.

SELECTION PROCESS

Candidates may remain on the certified eligible list for a period of at least one year. The resulting certified eligible list for this recruitment may be used for similar positions in this or other State agencies.

BENEFITS

Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled.

The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.

Leave may be granted to a contractual employee at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
