Research Assistant/Associate, Public Health
We are seeking a Research Project Assistant who will provide entry-level administrative support for a research project. The role involves community outreach, data collection, sample collection, laboratory work, and/or field work. The assistant will collect and organize data in accordance with research procedures and goals.
The Research Project Assistant will work in Dr. Quiros‑Alcala’s Research Laboratory and support a study aimed at understanding work exposures among Black and Latina hair salon workers. A large portion of the work will consist of conducting field visits to hair salons in Baltimore City and the surrounding 30‑mile radius to set up and pick up environmental monitoring equipment, collect biospecimens, and interview salon workers.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities- Assist with the collection and organization of data per study requirements, including participant interviews and questionnaire administration.
- Assist with setting up tools and procedures for data collection and study processes.
- Enter data into the database and run routine queries.
- Perform basic literature searches.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Schedule visits at hair salons, call participants to remind them of appointments, and plan and organize appointments.
- Assist with the collection of environmental samples, health measures, and biospecimens, obtain informed consent from study participants, and administer questionnaires.
- Be willing to drive to field sites in Baltimore and surrounding areas within a 30‑mile radius and have occasional schedule flexibility.
- High school diploma or graduation equivalent.
- Six months of work experience.
- Additional education may substitute for required experience, and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
- A valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation.
- Bilingual (reading/speaking) in Spanish.
- Proficiency with REDCap survey software.
- Prior experience working in a laboratory setting.
