Respiratory therapists assist patients who have breathing difficulties, including chronic respiratory diseases such as emphysema and asthma. Patients range from infants with undeveloped lungs to adults with lung disease. The role also includes emergency aid for breathing problems, heart attacks, drowning, and shock.
