Patient Care Technician II

Under the supervision of licensed nursing personnel, the Patient Care Technician II delivers direct patient care, including obtaining vital signs, performing blood draws, collecting specimen samples, and assisting with activities of daily living such as feeding, bathing, dressing, toileting, and transferring. This position ensures patient safety and comfort, supports admission, transfer, and discharge procedures, and collaborates with the healthcare team to monitor and report any changes in patient condition.

Key responsibilities include managing urinary catheter care, conducting blood glucose monitoring, performing venipuncture and IV placement, assisting with wound care and enteral feedings, operating EKG equipment, and responding promptly to patient alarms. The technician is responsible for maintaining a safe and organized clinical environment, providing mentorship to other staff members, participating in patient rounding, and strictly adhering to safety protocols to enhance patient outcomes and operational efficiency.

Additional duties may be assigned as necessary.

Education and experience prerequisites for the Patient Care Technician II role include a high school diploma or its equivalent, current Maryland state certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Geriatric Nursing Assistant (GNA), and an active Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, with preference given to candidates with at least one year of relevant experience. Applicants must exhibit strong oral and written communication abilities, maintain effective interpersonal relationships, and collaborate efficiently within a team environment.

They should be adept at prioritizing tasks, managing multiple responsibilities under pressure, and skilled in utilizing computer systems. Furthermore, candidates are expected to apply correct methods for obtaining and accurately recording blood glucose measurements, carry out delegated nursing duties with consideration for diverse patient populations, and maintain thorough knowledge and responsibility in aseptic techniques.
