Position Overview
The Residential Support Assistant (RSA) provides direct care and supervision to individuals in a residential setting, supporting their physical, emotional, and social well-being. This role is essential in helping residents maintain independence, dignity, and a high quality of life while ensuring a safe and structured environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide hands-on assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting
- Support residents with mobility, transfers, and positioning as needed
- Prepare and serve meals in accordance with dietary guidelines and assist with feeding when necessary
- Administer medications in compliance with state regulations and company policies (if certified)
- Observe, document, and report changes in residents’ health, behavior, or condition
- Implement individualized service plans and behavioral support strategies
- Promote social interaction, engagement, and participation in recreational activities
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe living environment
- Assist with transportation to appointments, errands, and community outings (if required)
- Follow all safety protocols, including infection control and emergency procedures
- Maintain accurate documentation and complete required reports in a timely manner
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- At least 6 months of experience in caregiving, healthcare, or human services preferred
- CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire)
- Medication Administration certification preferred (if applicable under Maryland regulations)
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation preferred
- Ability to pass criminal background check and drug screening

- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Compassionate, patient, and respectful approach to care
- Ability to handle sensitive situations with professionalism
- Basic documentation and record-keeping skills
- Ability to work flexible shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Physical ability to lift, transfer, and assist individuals as needed
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Work is performed in a residential care setting
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting (up to 50 lbs)
- May require assisting residents with mobility and transfers
- Exposure to various health conditions and behaviors
