Patient Care Technician I in the Transplant & Vascular Surgery Unit (Nights)

Under the supervision of licensed nursing personnel, the Patient Care Technician I in the Transplant & Vascular Surgery Unit delivers direct patient care, including obtaining vital signs, assisting with activities of daily living, performing phlebotomy, and collecting specimen samples. This position entails monitoring and accurately documenting patient status, collaborating with the interdisciplinary healthcare team to support individualized care plans, and ensuring patient safety through fall prevention measures and strict adherence to safety protocols.

Additional responsibilities include wound care management, urinary catheter care, blood glucose monitoring, orthopedic device maintenance, and timely response to patient alarms. The technician plays a key role in enhancing patient comfort, maintaining a safe and organized environment, facilitating patient admissions, transfers, and discharges, and contributing to the achievement of optimal patient outcomes while maintaining compliance with all regulatory requirements.

Candidates must hold a high school diploma or its equivalent, possess current Maryland state certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Geriatric Nursing Assistant (GNA), and maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Although prior experience is not mandatory, previous direct patient care experience within a healthcare setting is preferred. Successful candidates will exhibit strong verbal and written communication skills, demonstrate the ability to foster effective interpersonal relationships and collaborate within a team, and possess the capacity to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities in high-pressure environments.

Furthermore, candidates should be proficient in learning and utilizing computer systems, accurately performing blood glucose testing and documentation, and effectively executing delegated nursing tasks that address the diverse needs of the patient population served.
