JOB SUMMARY:

Behavioral Health Specialist must demonstrate the ability to develop an open, collaborative relationship with patients. The counselor must be proficient in the performance of the 12 Core Functions of Counseling and is required to be an active participant in the program's Continuous Quality Improvement efforts.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Carry a client caseload as assigned. Determine the client & participant's strengths, weaknesses, and needs to assist in developing a treatment plan within 7 days of admission.

Monitor and document clients' progress toward the treatment plan at least every 120 days, review and present it to the Clinical Supervisor for review and signature.

Provide behavioral health education in counseling sessions.

Manage time effectively.

Discharge or transfer clients according to regulations.

Keep client records up to date, including transition planning.

Ensure assigned clients receive random urinalysis according to State and Federal guidelines.

Perform other duties as assigned by the Clinical Supervisor.

Provide crisis interventions as needed, in accordance with laws and supervisor’s direction.

Maintain client confidentiality as regulated by Federal guidelines.

Conduct Intake Assessments with required documentation.

Attend weekly supervision meetings and any other required supervision.

Maintain monthly case notes regarding treatment, urinalysis, and interventions.

Adhere to confidentiality regulations and patient rights.

Maintain up-to-date licensure for the position.

Counselors should build a strong therapeutic alliance, practice ethical conduct, maintain professional boundaries, develop counseling skills, understand counseling theories and DSM V, learn effective time management, understand self-disclosure, be punctual, and value teamwork.
