Job Overview

Under direct supervision, performs cleaning and disinfecting services within an area, location or building. Takes precautions to ensure the safety of patients, visitors and associates in accordance with The Joint Commission, OSHA and other regulatory agencies.

• Performs cleaning and disinfecting of patient rooms including vacuuming, high and low dusting, bed making, stripping, and removal of waste.
• Cleans discharge areas, medical wards, utility rooms, galleys, treatment rooms, operating rooms, offices, medical supply rooms and restrooms following infection control procedures.
• Disinfects isolation rooms according to hospital policy.
• Performs general cleaning in public areas such as hallways, offices, elevators and stairwells.
• Adheres to all departmental sanitation procedures, established systems and training programs, and maintains knowledge of relevant regulations.
• Provides hospitable service and follows service recovery principles daily.
• Adheres to confidentiality and HIPAA requirements.
• Ensures safe environment by keeping hallways and doorways free of clutter and debris.

Access to medication storage areas is required.

• Previous housekeeping or related experience.

• Effective verbal and written communication.
• Proficiency in using electronic equipment such as pagers and radios.
• Ability to work well with others and under time constraints.
• Ability to follow written or oral instructions.
• Independence in work tasks.
• Basic knowledge of infection control procedures and universal precautions.
• Promotion and facilitation of a culture of service and operational excellence.
