A Community Health Educator III designs, organizes and conducts health educational and promotional programs. Work of this class involves no supervisory duties or responsibilities. Incumbents receive moderate supervision from a technical superior. Employees in this class work a conventional workweek. Work is performed in an office where working conditions are normal. Work requires minimal physical exertion.

• Education:
  
  Have a bachelor's degree in public or community health education from an accredited college or university.
• AND
  
  Experience:
  
  Have two years of experience performing public or community health education work.
• OR Equivalency Notes: A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and three years of experience performing public or community health education work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Licenses, Registrations, and Certificates:
  Some positions in this classification assigned to Baltimore City Health Department may require a valid Maryland Class C Noncommercial driver's license or an equivalent driver's license and eligibility to obtain a Baltimore City driver's permit.
• NOTES:
  In some designated positions, specific experience providing community health education in HIV/AIDS, Sexually Transmitted Diseases or Tuberculosis may be required. Some positions in this class may require, in addition to fluency in English, fluency in reading, writing, speaking and translating English into a non-English language.

• Knowledge of the principles and techniques of health education.
• Knowledge of individual and group behavior.
• Knowledge of facts and prevention of a wide variety of diseases, such as HIV/AIDS, STD and Tuberculosis.
• Skill, in certain designated positions, in speaking, translating, reading and writing a non-English language utilizing specific established rules pertaining to such factors as spelling in letters or characters in a Latin or non-Latin-based alphabet or writing system, word meanings, sentence structure, grammar, pronunciation, punctuation and other related language mechanics.
• Ability to design, organize, conduct and evaluate community health education and promotion programs.
• Ability to utilize the computer and common business presentation software packages to prepare community health education and promotion materials.
• Ability to develop and conduct in-service training programs in health education.
• Ability to act as a health educational consultant.
• Ability to deal with city government officials and personnel and community groups and organizations.
• Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.

Background Check:
Eligible candidates under final consideration for appointment to positions identified as positions of trust will be required to complete authorization for a Criminal Background Check and/or Fingerprint must be successfully completed.

Probation:
All persons, including current City employees, selected for this position must complete a mandatory six-month probation.
