This position is a full-performance laboratory scientist in the Maryland Department of Health's Division of Environmental Sciences, based in Baltimore. The scientist performs, analyzes, interprets, and reports test results on environmental and food samples using approved FDA, EPA, CDC, and Standard methods as part of public health initiatives to protect Maryland residents.
Key qualifications:- Bachelor's degree in Biochemistry, Biology, Chemistry, Microbiology, or related discipline from an accredited institution
- Two years of experience in chemistry laboratory performing analytical tests on environmental/biological samples, OR two years in medical/public health laboratory performing diagnostic testing
- Experience with FDA and AOAC-approved food testing methods
- Experience with food testing equipment such as ABI 7500 Real-Time PCR system, Bruker Biotyper MALDI-TOF, or Panther Fusion Plus
- Working knowledge of ISO/IEC 17025-accredited quality assurance systems and laboratory quality standards
