Position OverviewThe Jira Administrator is responsible for the administration, configuration, optimization, and ongoing support of Atlassian Jira and related tools to support effective project management, agile and hybrid development practices, and workflow automation. This role works closely with development teams, project managers, and business stakeholders to ensure Jira is used effectively for tracking, reporting, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities- Configure and maintain Jira projects, workflows, screens, issue types, custom fields, permissions, and notifications.
- Administer users, groups, roles, and access controls in accordance with organizational policies.
- Monitor system performance and availability; troubleshoot and resolve Jira-related issues.
- Support platform maintenance, upgrades, and security patching activities.
- Assist with Jira Server/Data Center to Jira Cloud migration initiatives, as applicable.
- Design and implement custom workflows, dashboards, reports, and automation rules.
- Administer and support third-party Jira add-ons and plugins (e.g., Script Runner, reporting and automation tools).
- Integrate Jira with other enterprise platforms such as Confluence, Service Now, Slack, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Continuously evaluate and optimize Jira configurations to meet evolving business needs.
- Provide Tier 2/3 support for Jira-related incidents and service requests.
- Develop and deliver end-user training, documentation, and best practices.
- Partner with technical and business teams to translate requirements into effective Jira solutions.
- Create and maintain dashboards and reports to support project tracking, operational metrics, and leadership visibility.
- Ensure data integrity, audit readiness, and support data migration or cleanup activities as needed.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 3–5 years of hands‑on experience administering Jira Server or Jira Data Center in a mid‑sized or large organization.
- Experience supporting Agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban) and hybrid project environments.
- Strong knowledge of Jira administration, configuration, JQL, and automation.
- Familiarity with scripting or automation (e.g., Groovy, Python), REST APIs, Linux environments, and system integrations.
- Experience supporting third‑party Jira add‑ons and plugins.
- Strong communication, problem‑solving, and customer service skills.
- Experience migrating Jira Server or Data Center to Jira Cloud.
- Experience administering or supporting Jira Cloud environments.
- Knowledge of ITIL practices and service management frameworks.
- Experience integrating Jira with enterprise platforms such as Service Now.
- Experience with advanced automation tools (e.g., Script Runner, Jira Workflow Toolbox).
- This position may require access to government‑funded projects or controlled technical data. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or U.S. Permanent residents eligible to work in the United States. A background check will be conducted.
