Overview
Sr. Data Analyst, Visualization & Innovation to play a critical role in advancing Johns Hopkins University’s HR data capabilities through modern analytics, visualization, and insight delivery. This role supports a data‑driven HR organization as systems are modernized and information is integrated across platforms. The position involves building compelling dashboards, transforming HR data into actionable insights, and supporting strategy across workforce planning, recruitment, retention, compensation, and beyond.
The role directly influences decisions and supports a future in which data, analytics, and visual storytelling are central to HR leadership.
- Align assessment strategy with strategic objectives and goals.
- Translate data into insights to support positive and enhanced outcomes.
- Collaborate with leadership to plan and implement assessment activities, including consultation on data collection, data analysis, reporting of assessment outcomes, and using results to improve programs and services.
- Prepare an annual assessment report to summarize findings across the school/division.
- Lead the design of clean, impactful, user-friendly data visualizations supporting strategic goals.
- Communicate findings visually and compellingly through dashboards, reports, briefing decks, stories, scorecards, executive briefings, etc., for different audiences using software such as Power BI and Tableau.
- Provide insights on data patterns and trends, and make strategic recommendations from analysis.
- Design and build data visualizations from concept to data analysis to final visualization, informed by good data storytelling principles.
- Collect and analyze diverse data; in collaboration with others, perform statistical analysis and summarize findings in reports or other communication mediums as appropriate.
- Use data visualization techniques to distill and clarify complex processes or data sets.
- Conduct quality assurance and review of all data visualizations to ensure accuracy, usability, and adherence to branding and style guidelines.
- Create and maintain a library or repository of analysis documents, slides, and links to dashboards.
- Work with leadership to develop an efficient system for planning and administering surveys to minimize survey fatigue and maximize actionable data collection.

- Integrate and model data across multiple HR systems (e.g., HRIS and applicant tracking systems) to create scalable, trusted HR datasets.
- Partner with HR stakeholders to improve data definitions, governance, and overall HR data quality.
- Analyze workforce trends and support the evolution toward predictive and forward-looking HR analytics.
- Explore, pilot, and apply emerging HR technologies and analytics tools to enhance insight delivery.
- Embed inclusive and equitable data practices into HR analysis and reporting analytics.
- Bachelor's Degree.
- Five years of related experience.
- Additional education may substitute for required experience, and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma/graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
- Advanced Power BI/Tableau dashboard development with hands-on experience analyzing and visualizing HR data from HRIS, applicant tracking, and workforce systems.
- Strong SQL or equivalent data querying skills for integrating, validating, and analyzing complex, multi-source HR datasets.
- Experience working with Data Warehouses and/or Data Lakes.
- Advanced knowledge of analysis software such as Power BI, Tableau, and Excel.
- Understanding of relational and dimensional data models and structures.
- Experience working with querying tools such as SQL, Python, or R.
