Broadband & Digital Equity; BDE Tech Intern; NCS - BCIT

Salary: $15.00 per hour

This is a non‑civil service position.

The Office of Broadband and Digital Equity (BDE) is seeking a high school or college intern to support the BDE Tech Team. This internship offers hands‑on experience with the expansion, support, and maintenance of the Free Bmore Wi Fi  broadband network, a free public Wi‑Fi service deployed at select recreation centers, senior centers, and community hubs across Baltimore. The intern will also gain exposure to project management and senior‑level management operations.

• Support project management practices and processes.
• Support team scrum practices and processes.
• Support network engineering activities such as network monitoring, issue troubleshooting, issue remediation, quality assurance, and maintenance.
• Support performance reporting and metrics.
• Support BDE program events.

• High school students: An interest in pursuing a career in information technology, an associated apprenticeship or technical training, or a college degree.
• High school graduates: An interest in pursuing a career or higher education in information technology.
• College students: Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in an associated information technology or computer science field.

• Currently attend a Maryland high school as a junior or senior.
• Currently attend a Maryland higher‑education institution.
• Graduated from a Maryland high school, but currently attend a non‑Maryland higher‑education institution.
• Graduated from a Maryland high school and is currently enrolled or graduated from a career‑technical training program.

• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills.
• Ability to work independently and within a team.
• Detail‑oriented with a structured approach to tasks.
• Ability to manage time effectively and meet deadlines.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams.

Background check required for positions of trust. Candidates must complete a criminal background check and/or fingerprint authorization. All persons, including current City employees, selected for this position must complete a mandatory six‑month probation period.
