The University of Maryland, School of Pharmacy (UMSOP) has an exciting opportunity for a Digital Accessibility and Accommodations Specialist (IT Instructional Technology Specialist) or a Senior Digital Accessibility and Accommodations Specialist (Senior IT Instructional Technology Specialist) within the Dean’s Administration Office of Faculty and Academic Affairs. The position will be filled as a Specialist or Senior Specialist commensurate with the candidate's education and experience.
Reporting to the Assistant Dean of Instructional Design and Technology, the Digital Accessibility and Accommodations Specialist supports the School of Pharmacy’s mission to empower learners, promote equity, and positively influence health outcomes by supporting accessible educational programs. The position provides instructional and technical support to ensure that digital learning environments and instructional materials align with applicable accessibility standards and academic accommodations.
Responsibilities
- For Digital Accessibility and Accommodations Specialist:
Assists faculty and students in the use of technology in learning applications and equipment using a wide variety of available technologies, such as digital images/audio, PowerPoint and other PC presentation software, enterprise learning applications, and distance learning (DL) technologies such as satellite television, and IP audio and video over the internet. - Provides daily support and advice to faculty, staff, and students in effectively using instructional technology applications and/or equipment.
- Conducts formal presentations in the use of specific technology materials.
- Monitors use and security of audio/visual, multimedia, video production, and IT equipment as appropriate.
- Assists with the department's or school's presence on the web in design and integration of special learning features.
- Collaborates on training plans and blended learning implementation strategies and in the design and customization of curriculum; provides consultation on course media use.
- Remediates digital content for accessibility (e.g., documents, LMS content, multimedia) in alignment with established standards such as WCAG, WCAG 2.0 or higher, Section 508, etc.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- For Senior Digital Accessibility and Accommodations Specialist:
Develops instructional materials using a variety of technologies, supports staff in instructional design projects, and provides direction to faculty, staff, and students in accessible use of learning applications. - Develops online, web-based, interactive learning applications.
- Designs and conducts formal presentations in the use of specific technology.
- Provides guidance in accessible use of audio/visual, multimedia, video production, and IT equipment as appropriate.
- Collaborates with departmental staff in the design and customization of curriculum; assists in training plans and blended learning strategies to meet Title II accessibility requirements.
- Develops accessible learning materials for instructional use.
- Plans the acquisition and accessibility implementation of new instructional technologies.
- Remediates digital content for accessibility and accommodations (e.g., documents, LMS content, multimedia) in alignment with established standards such as WCAG, WCAG 2.0 or higher, Section 508, etc.
- Maintains documentation of accessibility and accommodation compliance.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum qualifications – Digital Accessibility And Accommodations Specialist
Education: Bachelor’s degree in field and/or related field, such as Graphic or Instructional Design. Master’s degree preferred.
Experience: Two (2) years related experience which includes proficiency with audio/visual, multimedia, video production, or IT resources.
