Position: Systems Engineer (Server Administration)

Job Summary

We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Systems Engineer specializing in Server Administration to ensure the security, stability, and optimal performance of our core IT infrastructure. In this role, you will be responsible for the day-to-day management of our server environments, focusing on routine server maintenance, infrastructure application support, and comprehensive vulnerability patching to safeguard our systems. As a key member of our IT team, you will also oversee enterprise backup and storage operations, ensuring data integrity and business continuity.

Furthermore, you will be tasked with hosting, configuring, and maintaining critical virtual server environments, including IIS and other business-specific services. The ideal candidate possesses a strong technical foundation in server ecosystems and a commitment to maintaining a robust, secure, and highly available infrastructure.

  • Hiring Salary Range: $87,373.00 – $ Annually.
  • Full Salary Range: Up to $ Annually.

Key Responsibilities & Required Experience
1. Server Lifecycle & Core Administration
  • OS Lifecycle: Proven experience performing server upgrades or migrations involving Windows Server 2016, 2019, 2022, and 2025
    , as well as Linux environments (RHEL, Ubuntu).
  • Large-Scale Operations: Demonstrated experience in the day-to-day operations of large-scale server deployments. This includes managing routine patching, enterprise monitoring, system configuration, and maintaining high-availability environments.
  • Database Infrastructure: Experience managing and supporting SQL Clustering to ensure database redundancy and performance.
  • Backup & Recovery: Proven capability implementing or executing robust enterprise backup and data recovery plans.
  • Cloud Administration: Proven experience implementing and supporting cloud-based server solutions and infrastructure services.
  • Virtualization: Deep proficiency with virtual server hosting platforms like VMware or Hyper-V, along with the specific applications hosted within them.
  • Citrix Administration: Proven experience with Citrix VDI (Virtual Desktop Infrastructure) on-premises and cloud designs, alongside managing day-to-day VDI operations.
  • Application Administration: Practical experience administering core infrastructure services and tools, including Service Desk systems
    , SFTP
    , IIS (Internet Information Services), and varied client business applications.
  • Service Desk Design: Hands-on experience in designing and implementing service desk workflows.
  • Endpoint Management: Functional skills utilizing SCCM (MECM),
    Microsoft Intune
    , and standard operating system imaging support.
4. Security, Proactive Monitoring & Support
  • Vulnerability Remediation: Advanced understanding of how to prioritize, handle, and remediate system risks based on CVSS scores
    .
  • Monitoring Tools: Hands-on experience utilizing enterprise monitoring tools like Solar Winds to track system health metrics.
Minimum Qualifications & Schedule Requirements

On or before the date of filing the application, each candidate must meet the following:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Science from an accredited college or university.
  • Experience: Four (4) years of related specialty IT experience (e.g., systems engineering, network engineering, information security, or systems design).
  • Note:

    An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered under standard equivalency notes.
  • Patching Schedule Flexibility: Candidates must be available to perform patching, critical updates, and system maintenance during off-peak windows, which include:
  • Early morning shifts from 2:00 AM to 6:00 AM
    .
  • Midnight windows from 12:00 AM to 2:00 AM
    , shifting based on specific agency schedules.
  • Extended maintenance windows running for 2 weeks plus on weekends and designated weekdays.
  • Operational Availability: Ability to participate in a 24/7/365 on-call rotation to provide infrastructure support for critical City services.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Knowledge of current trends and developments in network-based communications and protocol configurations.
  • Skill in developing database queries and compiling technical analytics or reports.
  • Ability to establish and maintain highly effective working relationships with vendors, management, and technical co-workers.
  • Preferred certifications include advanced technical credentials such as Project Management Professional (PMP) or Certified Information Security Manager (CISM).
