Position OverviewWe are seeking a highly capable, detail-oriented Paralegal to provide substantive support to our Admiralty and Maritime Litigation practice. The ideal candidate will be proactive, organized, and comfortable working in a dynamic legal environment with international reach. You will work closely with attorneys on litigation support, case preparation, legal research, document management, and coordination with clients and local counsel.
Key Responsibilities- Assist attorneys in all phases of maritime litigation and transactional support, including vessel arrest and maritime attachment, maritime bankruptcy filings, and general maritime dispute matters.
- Prepare and manage filing documents, declarations, exhibits, and pleadings for U.S. and international courts.
- Conduct legal research and summarize case law, statutes, regulations, and judicial opinions (e.g., Jones Act, Longshore & Harbor Workers' Compensation Act, maritime tort concepts).
- Assist with discovery, document review, and organization of electronic document databases.
- Coordinate and communicate with clients, counter parties, maritime factors, surveyors, and local counsel domestically and internationally.
- Maintain case calendars, deadlines, shipping schedules, and logistical support for worldwide vessel arrests or related actions.
- Draft correspondence, legal notices, affidavits, and memoranda to support client matters.
- Assist in preparing trial materials, deposition binders, and evidence packages.
- Paralegal certificate or equivalent legal education
- 3+ years of litigation paralegal experience (law firm experience strongly preferred)
- Strong legal research and writing skills
- Experience managing complex case files and multiple deadlines
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Experience in Admiralty / Maritime law, shipping, transportation, or international litigation
- Familiarity with vessel arrest procedures, maritime liens, or maritime enforcement actions
- Bankruptcy experience or exposure to financial restructuring matters
