Director of Purchasing – Construction

Highland Consulting Group is recruiting an experienced Director of Purchasing with construction purchasing experience for a large regional contractor in the Baltimore area. The position reports directly to the Vice President of Operations and oversees material, equipment, bulk purchases, consumables, specialty items, office equipment, machinery, vehicles, and miscellaneous items. The role includes managing rebate programs with vendors and ensuring no travel is anticipated.

• Source and qualify vendors as necessary to meet project demands
• Ensure materials are delivered as scheduled
• Collaborate with suppliers, vendors, and Project Managers to establish and improve relationships, quality, and overall partnerships
• Reduce and/or maintain material costs through cost‑saving techniques and strategic negotiation with vendors
• Negotiate all vendor pricing of front‑end commodities
• Analyze multiple vendor bids and create all project budgets
• Negotiate and monitor master contract agreements and vendor work scopes
• Responsible for creation and distribution of all purchase orders and variance purchase orders
• Continuously monitor and update vendor pricing and rebates
• Manage a staff of purchasers

• 5 years experience as a Purchasing Manager in the construction industry – preferred
• Experience with direct purchasing
• Experience with direct import – preferred
• Excellent communication skills
• Experience negotiating large contracts – preferred
• Experience managing a purchasing department – preferred
• Strong computer skills
• Must be extremely organized
• Bachelor’s degree – preferred
