job summary

a storekeeper i receives, stores and distributes equipment, materials and supplies. The work of this class involves no supervisory duties or responsibilities. Incumbents receive close supervision from a technical superior. Employees in this class work a conventional workweek. Work is performed in a warehouse where there is exposure to cold and heat. Work requires frequent bending, lifting, pushing and hauling heavy stock items.

minimum

qualifications
  • educational attainment: graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a ged certificate.
  • experience: one year of experience in storing and issuing equipment and supplies or in performing office support work.
  • equivalency: have an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • licenses, registrations, and certificates: have a valid maryland class c noncommercial driver’s license or an equivalent driver’s license and eligible to obtain a baltimore city driver’s permit. Provisional driver’s license or learner permits are not acceptable.

  • knowledge of the procedures for receiving, storing and shipping materials and supplies.
  • knowledge of the methods and procedures of taking inventory.
  • ability to operate materials handling equipment.
  • ability to utilize standard business computer software programs and the internet to perform routine research and to enter and maintain inventory and distribution of records.
  • ability to maintain simple stock records.
additional information background check

eligible candidates under final consideration for appointment to positions identified as positions of trust will be required to complete authorization for a criminal background check and/or fingerprint must be successfully completed.

probation

all persons, including current city employees, selected for this position must complete a mandatory six-month probation.

eligibility

qualified candidates will be considered for vacancies as they arise, for a period of at least six months. The decision of the director of human resources with respect to acceptable minimum qualifications is final.
