Custodian Floor Tech

The Bloomberg School of Public Health Facilities Management Department is seeking a Custodian Floor Tech who will perform a variety of floor care and cleaning duties, including cleaning office buildings, laboratories, classrooms, and outside areas, moving furniture, appliances, and equipment.

• Operate designated floor equipment such as auto-scrubbers, burnishers, buffers, carpet extractors, etc., at least 3 days per week.
• Use automated floor cleaning equipment according to schedule for large floor surfaces.
• Apply proper procedures for carpet and upholstery cleaning (shampooing, damp surface, extractions, spot cleaning, vacuuming).
• Operate industrial floor care equipment as assigned.
• Perform maintenance and restorative processes for all floor surface types.
• Cleans, sweeps, vacuums, and polishes floors.
• Use a variety of tools and chemicals for cleaning tasks.
• Cleans walls, windows, blinds, ceilings, and doors, and may work from ladders or scaffolding.
• Replenish towels, soap, toilet tissue, linen, and other supplies as required.
• Inspect the interior and exterior of the building for service issues and report damages, malfunctions, and needed repairs to the supervisor.
• Remove trash from assigned areas.
• Move furniture and miscellaneous equipment and empty trash containers.
• Remove debris and discarded building materials.
• Transport biohazard containers to designated areas.
• Remove snow, ice, and debris from entrances, sidewalks, and other areas as required.
• Maintain equipment and work areas clean and orderly.
• Observe safety precautions and use equipment and products properly.
• Set up and remove furniture and supplies for meetings and special events.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
• Read and write labels on cleaning and detergent materials, disinfecting solutions.
• Operate large powered vacuum cleaners, cleaning, and buffing equipment.
• Interact and work with faculty, students, staff, and visitors in a courteous manner.
• Lift, carry, or move objects and materials weighing up to 50 lbs.
• Stand, walk, or move around campus continuously.
• Ascend and descend stairs regularly.

• High School Diploma or equivalent (preferred).
• One year of experience (preferred).
• Valid driver's license (preferred).

This is a Bargaining Unit position. All newly hired employees in Bargaining Unit positions shall be considered “probationary” employees until completion of 90 calendar days of employment. Bargaining Unit employees shall become eligible for benefits upon completion of their probationary period.

Salary: $17.09 per hour, increasing to $19.81 after 12 months.
