We are seeking a Custodial Services Assistant Manager - Second Shift (Custodial/EVS) who will be primarily responsible for delivering quality and reliable Environmental Service program to the Bloomberg School of Public Health (BSPH) facilities. The Environmental Services Assistant Manager oversees all shifts but primarily manages the evening shift. The Environmental Services Assistant Manager provides technical expertise to Environmental Services and defines specific programs necessary to maintain the BSPH facilities in the most efficient and effective manner.
This includes providing excellent customer service to students, staff and visitors. Additionally, the Environmental Service Assistant Manager supports, updates and implements Environmental Service programs, routines and schedules as necessary. Analyzes feedback and adjusts programs, schedules, and labor requirements accordingly. This position reports to the Custodial Operations Manager.
- Support the academic mission and the School's commitment to sustainability by providing an attractive, safe and sustainable environment.
- Develop priorities and direct Supervisors and Staff to achieve departmental programmatic objectives.
- Assist Supervisors in managing workload to ensure a timely and quality response to requests for service.
- Analyze performance standards to meet service expectations and productivity measures to identify and track progress and customer satisfaction. Continually assess performance through established standards and apply corrective measures as required.
- Assist individual supervisors as necessary with disciplinary actions.
- Assist with managing three budgets of approximately $3.5 million dollars. This includes oversight and reconciling expenses.
- Provide input to assist in preparation of the annual operating and capital budgets.
- Oversee departmental support of events and work closely with the Special Events Team (SET).
- Procure supplies and equipment necessary to maintain effective and efficient custodial programs.
- Make recommendations on equipment, supplies and procedures.
- Ensure that all Environmental Services activities and programs are accomplished in accordance with statutory requirements and regulatory guidelines.
- Assist in identifying capital renewal projects on a fiscal year basis within a limited capital budget.
- Support safety programs for the continual maintenance of a safe workplace and a safety conscious staff.
- Oversee parts, materials and equipment inventories to ensure adequate stocking levels.
- Hire, train, evaluate, and terminate staff as required.
- Apply the collective bargaining agreement and resolve issues that may arise.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, BOCA, State and Federal regulations, and JHU safety standards for all work occurring in BSPH buildings.
- On-call at times and is expected to either physically or verbally respond to emergencies, depending upon the scope of the problem.
- Perform annual performance evaluations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- This requires direct oversight of five supervisors, and 55 union employees.
- Prepares and manages three budgets totaling approximately 3.5 million dollars. This includes oversight of expenditures and reconciliation of expenses.
- Bachelor's Degree in Hospitality, Business Management or other related field.
- Minimum of five (5) years of related experience, including three (3) years of supervisory experience. Must have a valid Driver's License.
- Additional education may substitute for required experience, and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma/graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
- Valid Driver's License
- Current involvement with trade associations; ISSA, CMI, APPA, IFMA
- Understanding of good business practices, service excellence, human resources, inventory control, environmental services systems and standards and infection control.
- Understanding of technical aspects of cleaning, floor care and trash removal in a university and research lab environment.
- Knowledge of safety rules, procedures and practices, including the proper use of safety equipment as defined by OSHA and industry standards.
- Proficient knowledge of computer applications, including Windows, email, internet browsing, word processing, and presentations.
- Ability to perform moderately complex data analysis using spreadsheets.
- Experience with a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) and electronic time tracking system preferred.
- General knowledge of project management.
- Ability to supervise union employees.
- Perform work within reasonable lengths of time as measured against industry or engineered standards.
- Ability to prioritize tasks
