Introduction
The Maryland Insurance Administration (MIA) is an independent State agency that regulates Maryland’s $46 billion insurance industry and protects consumers by monitoring and enforcing insurers’ and insurance professionals’ compliance with State law. Staff members are subject‑matter experts who serve as resources for lawmakers, consumers, and other public and private entities. The MIA is charged with a broad range of responsibilities including licensing insurance carriers and insurance producers, conducting financial examinations, reviewing rates and contract forms, investigating consumer fraud and complaints, and monitoring compliance with Maryland law.
The agency also has a unit dedicated to consumer education and outreach that participates in events and reaches thousands of consumers annually.

Location of PositionBaltimore City (hybrid between office and teleworking)
Main Purpose of JobTo facilitate the Division’s investigative operations by overseeing a workgroup of investigators and conducting investigations into allegations of insurance fraud. The incumbent implements administrative and supervisory procedures, ensures adherence by subordinates, and maintains their own investigative caseload.
Position Duties- Oversee and supervise an investigative workgroup.
- Conduct investigations into insurance fraud allegations.
- Implement and enforce administrative and supervisory procedures.
- Prepare detailed reports, applications for statement of charges, and case booklets.
- Collaborate with the Office of the Attorney General, Special Investigation Units, and law enforcement to determine criminality and further investigation.
- Travel statewide as necessary.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four‑year college or university.
- Experience: Seven years conducting investigations of fraud, financial crimes, or other civil or criminal misconduct, or reviewing and analyzing financial documents for investigative purposes (with at least two years in a lead or supervisory capacity).
- Alternate experience: Up to four additional years of similar investigative or financial‑analysis experience may substitute for years of education, with at least two years in a supervisory capacity.
