Position: OPEN RANK: Associate Dean or Senior Associate Dean for Administration and Finance & COO

The University of Maryland, School of Pharmacy (UMSOP) is seeking a dynamic leader to serve as Associate or Senior Associate Dean for Administration and Finance and Chief Operating Officer (COO). The Associate Dean/Senior Associate Dean for Administration and Finance & COO is a strategic, service-oriented executive who provides day-to-day leadership and management for the School and serves as a key member of the Dean’s leadership team.

Reporting to the Dean, this leader partners closely with faculty and administrative colleagues to advance the School’s education, research, practice, and service missions through operational excellence, strong financial stewardship, and thoughtful management of institutional resources.

The role oversees the School’s core administrative functions, including finance, human resources, information technology, and facilities/space planning. The Associate Dean/Senior Associate Dean plays a central role in aligning the School’s operations and resources with its strategic priorities. The Associate Dean/Senior Associate Dean provides guidance and recommendations to senior leaders regarding administrative operations, institutional resources, and initiatives that support an outstanding learning and working environment.

This individual serves as the School’s senior administrative and financial leader and is expected to uphold the highest standards of integrity, stewardship, accountability, and service. Servant leadership is central to this role: the Associate Dean/Senior Associate Dean removes barriers, provides responsive operational support, and helps equip faculty, staff, and students for success.

Primary Responsibilities
  • School-wide leadership & strategic planning:
    Provide day-to-day leadership and management for the School; participate in long-range strategic planning and help translate institutional priorities into operational plans that support the School’s mission and long-term success.
  • Comprehensive operations strategy:
    Lead integrated operational planning across finance, HR, IT, and facilities to ensure responsive, high-quality services, effective internal controls, and reliable day-to-day operations.
  • Resource stewardship and revenue strategy:
    Lead resource management and support efforts to identify and develop new revenue opportunities; develop financial models and planning frameworks that align resources with strategic priorities and support the long-term strength and stability of the School.
  • Financial management:
    Oversee all-funds budgeting, multi-year forecasting, reconciliations, internal reporting, and year-end close; ensure strong internal controls, audit readiness, compliance, and clear financial communication with stakeholders.
  • Executive advising & stakeholder partnership:
    Collaborate closely with School and campus leadership, department chairs, faculty leaders, and administrative managers to support effective operations across the School; serve as a trusted advisor to the Dean on operational planning, administrative strategy, and institutional resources.
