Position Overview:

Under the direct supervision of the General Manager, the position’s primary responsibility is maintaining turf areas on the golf course, which consist of bent grass greens and Bermuda fairways. The role involves supervising and training maintenance staff to provide playing conditions that meet member and guest expectations within established budgetary guidelines; overseeing staff selection, employee reviews, training, and scheduling processes; managing all course operations, including irrigation, seasonal agronomic practices, and the application of pesticides, fertilizers, and soil conditioners;

and possessing the interpersonal skills needed to lead and motivate the maintenance team daily. The superintendent also maintains club amenities such as the clubhouse, aquatic facilities, and tennis courts, oversees contractors hired for maintenance or repairs beyond the internal staff’s scope, and communicates effectively with Pro Shop staff regarding daily operations, events, and maintenance schedules. The superintendent is responsible for maintaining and processing time sheets for maintenance staff.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in agronomy, plant science, or turf grass management, or an associate’s degree with 3–5 years of golf course maintenance experience.
• 3–5 years of experience as an assistant superintendent.
• 2 or more years of experience as a head superintendent.
• Experience with push-up bent grass greens in the Mid-Atlantic transitional area required.

Compensation: $67,000 – $115,000 per year.
