The MAA is currently accepting applications for the position Airport Division Fire Chief, Fire Prevention within the BWI Airport Fire and Rescue Department at the Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI Marshall Airport).
Responsibilities Include But Are Not Limited To:- Managing all Fire Prevention and Inspection Programs to ensure processes and activities align with FRD, and MAA policies and procedures.
- Developing fire protection and detection initiatives and providing expert guidance to staff.
- Managing and enforcing state-adopted fire prevention codes while advising staff and BWI tenants to ensure total regulatory compliance.
- Monitoring legislative updates and emerging regulations to determine operational impact, implementing necessary modifications to maintain code adherence.
- Coordinating the Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport fire prevention schedule to ensure all inspections are completed on time and in strict accordance with codes, regulations, and Maryland Aviation Administration policies.
- Supervising Fire Inspectors, Fire Protection Engineers, and administrative support staff to ensure all fire prevention programs and work activities align with established codes, regulations, and scheduling requirements.
- Communicating organizational mission statements and objectives to staff, ensuring these goals are integrated into all fire prevention operations.
- Managing personnel actions, including approving leave requests, establishing performance standards, conducting annual evaluations, and overseeing the hiring and termination process.
- Reviewing new building modifications, construction projects, engineering issues, and permits through the planning and design review process, and working closely with Inspectors, Engineers, Project Managers, and Tenants, enforces all codes, rules, regulations, and directives as per the State of Maryland, MAA, MDOT, and BWI FRD.
Work is performed at an airport fire station and at response locations throughout the airport, which are exposed to high noise levels from aircraft. The employee is required to work outdoors in all types of weather. In some emergency situations, the Airport Division Fire Chief wears protective clothing and may be exposed to hazardous situations.
This position is an essential emergency position. All employees designated as emergency essential are required to be available to work during weather, operational and/or disaster emergency conditions. Furthermore, this position requires work in a 24- hour facility and you must be available to work any shift as required by the operational needs of the MAA.
This position is located at BWI Marshall Airport in Anne Arundel County, MD.
Qualifications PREFFEREDQUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Graduation from an accredited college or university possessing an Associate's Degree in Fire Science, Fire Protection, or related field.
Experience:
Four years' experience as a career fire officer, in the rank of Captain or above, at the Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Fire and Rescue Department (BWI-FRD) or comparable airport, or municipality, or military fire department. Three years' experience must include fire prevention, inspections, and investigations.
