Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) is recruiting for a Supervisor, Metro Plant Maintenance. Metro Plant Maintenance group is made up of two departments
- Facilities Maintenance and Environmental Services. The Supervisor, Metro Plant Maintenance is the supervisory level of work, responsible for the maintenance of Maryland Transit Administration Metro Facilities. The employee supervises Repairmen, Janitors, and other staff and contract employees who repair, maintain, service, clean, install, inspect, test, and operate electro-mechanical, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, roofing, pneumatic and hydraulic, fire management systems (FMS), deluge, station ventilation, intrusion detection, and equipment.
The position requires the ability to work variable shifts, to include evenings, nights, and weekends. The Supervisor is the supervisory level of work directing and coordinating the day-to-day services of a Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) maintenance division including staffing, scheduling, and procurement. The Supervisor will assist in directing, planning and development of methods to effectively utilize maintenance personnel and resources.
The Supervisor is responsible for assigning equipment and personnel to meet all operating requirements in accordance with all established MTA rules, regulations, practices, policies, and procedures. The incumbent directly supervises union technical and/or professional employees. The Supervisor receives managerial supervision from the Assistant Superintendent and/or Superintendent of Facilities Maintenance or other designated officials. The Supervisor's work is normally performed in an office setting.
The incumbent is required to periodically travel and work outdoors at various locations throughout the MTA service area.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education:
Graduation from a standard high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
Experience:
Five (5) years of experience in the repair, maintenance, installation, inspection, testing or operation of either: electrical and HVAC systems; plumbing, mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic systems; fuel pumps and dispensing systems; electro-mechanical electronic systems; or escalator/elevator systems. Substitution Information:
1. Additional education at an accredited college or university may be substituted at a rate of thirty credit hours for each year of the required experience for up to three years of the experience. For every thirty credit hours, at least six credit hours must have been in electrical or mechanical engineering courses.
2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience involving staff work related to the administration of rules, regulations, policies, procedures and processes, or overseeing or coordinating unit operations or functioning as a staff assistant on a year-for-year basis for the required education and experience. Special Requirements:
1. Employees may be exposed to a variety of hazards such as toxic materials and fumes, asbestos, flammable or combustible agents, requiring the use of appropriate safety equipment.
2. Employees are subject to be on call 24 hours a day and will be required to maintain a reliable communication link for the purpose of emergency call back requirements
Employees in this classification will be required to possess a Class A Commercial Driver's License permit at the time of employment and possess a Commercial Driver's License valid in the State Of Maryland, prior to the end of their probationary period.
