Job Requirements
The Vice President, Deputy General Counsel for the Community Health Division is a senior leadership role within the Office of General Counsel, accountable for ensuring that the Community Health Division receives coordinated, timely, and high-quality legal support from OGC's practice groups.
The DGC is the division's relationship owner within a practice group legal department, and works as a close peer with the other DGC to ensure OGC operates strategically and consistently across both divisions.
This role is one of two peer DGC positions covering the System's two operating divisions. The DGC is expected to model OGC's core values
- Communication, Strategic Partnership, and Service - in every aspect of the role.

Management & Administrative Oversight- Own budget development, management, for legal spend associated with the Community Health Division,
- including oversight of outside counsel and related legal services, in partnership with the SVP/GC and
- relevant Chiefs.
- Monitor legal operations, performance indicators, and service delivery to support efficient, high-quality
- legal services.
- Support effective resource allocation and workload management in partnership with the SVP/GC and
- relevant Chiefs.
- Provide leadership for legal and support resources aligned to the division, in coordination with Chiefs and
- Human Resources as appropriate.
- Foster a high-performing, collaborative, and sustainable work environment that supports employee engagement, development, and well-being.
- Serve as the primary senior resource for Chiefs and senior attorneys handling division matters.
- Apply a disciplined, consistent standard for determining which matters require the SVP, General Counsel's
- direct awareness, and ensure appropriate communication, context, and recommended next steps for
- escalated matters.
- Maintain working knowledge of significant active matters within the division and engage directly on
- matters warranting DGC-level involvement.
- Cross-Division Collaboration with Peer DGC
- Coordinate regularly with the VP, Deputy General Counsel
- Academic Health Division so that OGC's - Management/Administrative Oversight and Matter Organization practices are applied consistently and
- strategically across both divisions.
- Proactively share approaches, tools, and lessons learned with the peer DGC, and incorporate lessons
- learned from the other division in turn.
- Promote clear, aligned, and consistent expectations for Chiefs on matters that cut across both divisions.
- Contribute to strategic planning, communication, and leadership initiatives across the Office of General
- Counsel.
- Contribute to workforce development and culture initiatives across the OGC, including employee
- engagement, development, and organizational effectiveness.
- Practice-Group Deployment & Division Support
- Act as the accountable relationship owner for the Community Health Division, ensuring its legal needs are understood and translated into clear direction for the relevant practice group(s).
- Convene and coordinate across practice groups on division matters that span more than one practice area,
- ensuring a single, coordinated legal position.
- Monitor the quality, responsiveness, and consistency of legal service delivered to the division across all
- practice groups; raise and help resolve service gaps.
- Partner with Chiefs to prioritize division matters when practice-group capacity is constrained, escalating
- genuine cross-division conflicts to the GC.
- Serve as the principal OGC representative to Community Health Division executive leadership and, as
- applicable, related governance or board committees.
- Maintain substantive depth in at least one core OGC practice area, sufficient to serve as a senior legal
- resource for the Chief and attorneys in that discipline on complex matters.
