Production Technician; Optical

General Function

The Production Technician is responsible for the set-up, operation, and basic maintenance of equipment within the assigned area for surface or finish portions of lab production.

• Perform all aspects of laboratory production within the assigned area, including the following:
• Proper, efficient, and productive use of Lensometer instrument for lens product inspection respective of basic lens power requirements
• Perform equipment maintenance including wheel and motor/spindle change
• Interpret "Special Rx's" with assistance from supervisor
• Translate Rx requirements into finished products commensurate with production area
• Assist supervisor in maintaining and managing shop supply inventories
• Troubleshoot production problems leading to unacceptable spoilage, production slowdowns, and sub-par product quality/service, and advise supervisor of potential issues and offer possible solutions
• Prepare all solutions for the wash process (when applicable) and ensure daily supplies are stocked
• Interpret Rx work tickets
• Perform production operations on specified equipment following established procedures
• Perform basic/routine maintenance of assigned equipment
• Troubleshoot malfunctioning equipment and advise supervisor on possible remedy
• Lens wash and surface/cosmetic inspection
• Tool cutting and selection/replacement
• Equipment set up for daily production in accordance with UPS
• Perform daily, weekly, and quarterly calibration of equipment and maintain calibration log sheets as directed by area supervisor and following established divisional operation procedures
• Effectively communicate with all levels of the lab to ensure understanding and proper application of company policies, practices, and procedures
• Maintain work area and common areas of the department in a neat, clean, and organized condition
• Understand and follow all company and laboratory policies and procedures, assure compliance with attendance and safety rules and regulations, and maintain confidentiality of proprietary information
• Assist others as necessary to keep work current, meet deadlines, or maintain an even workload; cooperate with other employees and demonstrate a good attitude; perform an acceptable quantity and quality of work on time as required
• Provide proper training, work direction, and technical guidance for less experienced employees; attend in-house or sponsored training meetings when necessary
• Perform other duties as assigned
• This position requires exposure to hazardous substances/chemicals which requires safety training

• High school diploma or GED
• 3+ years of laboratory work experience
• Ability to multi-task, orient to detail, and operate in a fast-paced environment
• Basic high school level math skills required
• Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
• Specific vision abilities required for this job, including close vision and color vision

$18.72 - $28.25 per hour
