Product Development Lab Technician
Supports the development and improvement of asphalt products, including asphalt binders, emulsions, and modified asphalts. Responsible for preparing test samples, conducting laboratory performance tests, recording data, and assisting with formulation optimization to meet customer and regulatory specifications. The technician plays a critical role in supporting innovation and quality in asphalt products used for road construction and maintenance.
Key Responsibilities- Performs daily quality control testing
- Conducts analysis of aggregate samples
- Performs lab production and testing of asphalt emulsions and cutbacks, and evaluates asphalt mix design
- Ensures compliance with job, agency, or state specifications with routine asphalt testing
- Performs data collection and reporting to meet job and agency specifications
- Maintains an organized and clean lab
- Follows all safety policies and practices
- All other duties as assigned
- High School diploma or GED equivalent
- Solid math and reading skills, and the ability to understand technical manuals
- Well established organizational skills with strong attention to detail, record-keeping skills, and excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Customer focused attitude
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Products
- Associate's degree or higher (e.g., Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering)
- Experience in and a strong knowledge of asphalt and aggregate specifications
- Certification in asphalt and aggregates
- Experience in asphalt quality control or as a Certified Aggregate Technician
- Ability to work in a team environment with production and sales personnel, as well as the ability to work independently without close supervision
- Must be able to work overtime as needed
- Ability to lift, up to 60 pounds as needed
- Ability to perform work which requires frequent and regular movement of wrists, hands, and/or fingers
- Ability to perform work which requires frequent and regular walking and standing
- Ability to see, hear, talk, and perform tasks requiring manual dexterity
- Ability to operate standard office equipment including a computer, copier, fax, phone and other similar office equipment
- Ability to operate laboratory specific technology and equipment

This position requires most responsibilities to be performed in an asphalt emulsions manufacturing plant laboratory. Work conditions may involve exposure to hot materials, chemicals, fumes, dust, odors, gases, and other substances used in a construction environment.
