The CMM Programmer is responsible for developing, maintaining, and executing Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) inspection programs to verify product conformance to engineering drawings, specifications, and quality standards. This role works closely with Quality, Manufacturing, Engineering, and Production teams to ensure precision components meet customer and regulatory requirements. The ideal candidate has experience with GD&T interpretation, precision measurement equipment, and CMM software such as PC-DMIS, Calypso, or MCOSMOS.
Key Responsibilities- Develop, validate, and optimize CMM programs for first article, in-process, and final inspections.
- Program and operate CMM equipment using software such as PC-DMIS, Calypso, MCOSMOS, or similar platforms.
- Interpret engineering drawings, CAD models, specifications, and GD&T requirements.
- Perform dimensional inspections on machined, fabricated, and assembled components.
- Generate inspection reports and communicate measurement results to manufacturing and quality teams.
- Support First Article Inspection (FAI) activities in accordance with customer and industry requirements.
- Troubleshoot CMM programs and measurement discrepancies.
- Maintain calibration records and ensure inspection equipment is properly maintained.
- Assist with root cause analysis and corrective action investigations related to dimensional nonconformances.
- Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineers and Machinists to improve product quality and process capability.
- Create and maintain inspection plans, work instructions, and quality documentation.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives focused on quality, efficiency, and inspection automation.
- Train quality technicians and inspectors on measurement techniques and equipment usage.
- Associate degree in Manufacturing Technology, Quality Assurance, Engineering Technology, or equivalent experience.
- 3+ years of CMM programming experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Proficiency with CMM software such as PC-DMIS, Calypso, MCOSMOS, or equivalent.
- Strong understanding of GD&T and blueprint reading.
- Experience using precision measurement tools including micrometers, calipers, height gauges, optical comparators, and surface plates.
- Knowledge of dimensional inspection techniques and statistical process control (SPC).
- Ability to analyze inspection data and prepare detailed reports.
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
- Experience in aerospace, defense, medical device, automotive, or other highly regulated manufacturing industries.
- Familiarity with AS9100, ISO 9001, ISO 13485, or IATF 16949 quality systems.
- Experience with CAD software such as Solid Works, CATIA, NX, or Creo.
- Understanding of First Article Inspection requirements per AS9102.
- Experience with portable CMMs, laser scanners, or advanced metrology equipment.
