OverviewThe Deputy Director (DD) assists the Executive Director in setting the overall strategic direction of the organization, is responsible for operational management, and advancing the mission. The DD ensures that operations, fundraising, and services align with the organization’s mission, values, and strategic goals. This role requires a tactical and strategic visionary skilled in fundraising, stakeholder engagement, and organizational development, capable of building a sustainable foundation for continued growth and impact.
EssentialFunctions & Responsibilities
- Fundraising and Resource Development
- Lead the design and implementation of a comprehensive fundraising strategy to support an annual budget of over 2M.
- Cultivate, solicit, and steward major donors, foundations, and corporate partners.
- Oversee grant writing, reporting, and compliance processes.
- Explore and develop new funding streams, including fee‑for‑service initiatives and social enterprise projects.
- Strengthen the organization’s visibility and brand through community engagement and strategic partnerships.
- Internal Operations, Program and Services Oversight
- Provide leadership and supervision for operations director, program and services managers to ensure effective day‑to‑day internal operations, cross‑departmental coordination, and consistent implementation of organizational policies, systems, and performance standards.
- Offer strategic oversight to ensure programs align with the organization’s mission and deliver measurable outcomes.
- Collaborate with directors and managers to evaluate program effectiveness and identify opportunities for innovation and expansion.
- Ensure services meet the needs of diverse communities and reflect evidence‑based and inclusive practices.
- Organizational Leadership and Management (shared with ED)
- Assist Executive Director with developing a high‑performing leadership team consisting of Directors and Managers.
- Foster a collaborative, mission‑driven, and inclusive organizational culture.
- Assist with the creation, implementation, and evaluation of strategic and annual operational plans.
- Manage, in partnership with Executive Director, organizational policies, systems, and structures effectively support program delivery and staff performance.
· Attend outside functions as needed.
· Support Board of Directors as needed.
· Contribute to key projects as needed.
· Perform other duties as assigned.
Education & Experience- Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, business, public administration, or related field required;
Master’s degree preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of progressive leadership experience in nonprofit or mission‑driven organizations.
- Proven track record in fundraising, grant development, and donor cultivation.
- Strong understanding of nonprofit governance and compliance.
- Demonstrated success in strategic planning, team leadership, and partnership building.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
- Ability to inspire trust, motivate teams, and foster collaboration across diverse stakeholders.
