The Cathedral of Mary Our Queen is located in the Homeland neighborhood of Baltimore City with additional facilities in Rogers Forge, Govans, Mount Washington, and Hamden. It serves approximately 1,300 registered families and is host to many Archdiocesan liturgies and events throughout the year. The School of the Cathedral forms an integral part of the parish with an enrollment of 350 students.
The Sacraments & Ministries Coordinator serves as the point of contact for new parishioner, wedding, baptism, and funeral inquiries. The Sacraments & Ministries Coordinator also serves as part of the Faith Formation team and provides administrative support to the Pastoral Associate and Coordinator of Faith Formation as needed.
Essential Functions
Baptisms
- Serve as point of contact for families seeking baptism.
- Collaborate with parents to ensure understanding of the Cathedral baptism preparation program as well as completion of all preparatory classes and paperwork.
- Collaborate with Cathedral clergy to schedule baptism preparation meetings and classes.
- Educate families, as needed, on the value and nature of the sacrament and the Cathedral's approach to baptism preparation, with sensitivity to unique family situations and an emphasis on pastoral care and with mindfulness of the opportunity for evangelization.
- Schedule baptisms, prepare baptism binders, and record baptisms in parish registers and online parish management software (Ministry Platform), and prepare and mail baptismal certificates.
- Serve as point of contact for couples seeking marriage.
- Collaborate with couples to ensure understanding of the Cathedral marriage preparation program.
- Assist couple and Cathedral clergy in completion and compilation of all necessary paperwork into the marriage file.
- Prepare and review with the couple the wedding policy agreements.
- Schedule and collect all associated fees and payments, keeping a thorough record of all transactions.
- Educate couples, as needed, on the value and nature of the sacrament and the Cathedral's approach to marriage preparation, with sensitivity to the unique circumstances of the couple and with an emphasis on pastoral care and with mindfulness of the opportunity for evangelization.
- Record the marriage in parish registers, create and mail marriage certificate, and ensure proper notification of Church of Baptism/Record for the Catholic party/parties.
- Collaborate with representative wedding coordinators of Loyola University, Notre Dame of Maryland University, and Saint Mary's Seminary & University to ensure timely remittance of payment as well as receipt and appropriate filing of all related paperwork and records.
- Serve as the point of contact for the family of the deceased seeking a funeral, prayer service, and/or burial for a deceased loved one.
- Assist the family and/or coordinate with local funeral homes in planning the funeral, prayer service, and/or burial.
- Intentionally accompany the family through the planning process with particular sensitivity to and pastoral care for the family's grief and with mindfulness of the opportunity for evangelization.
- Collaborate with Cathedral clergy and music ministry in the planning of the service.
- Ensure proper remittance of payment and thorough recording of all transactions.
- Serve as on-site funeral coordinator on an as-needed basis.
- Serve as the point of contact for individuals or families seeking to become registered parishioners of the Cathedral.
- Outreach prospective parishioners by phone or by in-person meeting to determine the prospective parishioner's circumstances, needs, and interests and to connect them with parish programs, formation, and ministry opportunities.
- Approach all interactions with prospective and existing parishioners as opportunities to evangelize, educate, and form missionary disciples, inviting involvement and active participation in the parish community.
- Process parishioner inquiry and registration forms, updating online parish management software (Ministry Platform) accordingly.
- Collaborate with Faith Formation staff to support sacramental programs as needed (sacramental recording, producing sacramental certificates, preparing and sending notifications to Church of Record/Baptism, etc.)
- Must be a fully initiated and practicing Roman Catholic in good standing with the Church
- Must support and promote Catholic social teaching
- Bachelor's in theology or religious studies preferred
- Minimum of two (2) years' experience in a parish setting required
- Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Must show willingness to outreach prospective or existing parishioners by phone or by in-person meeting.
- Must demonstrate ability to prioritize and organize work effectively and efficiently
- Must possess proficient computer / technology skills.
