Program Mission and/or Goals

Civic Works Cities for All Ages program strives to ensure that older adults live healthy and successful lives within their Baltimore communities. Free services are offered to adults (ages 65+) living in Baltimore City, including Home Repair, Home Safety Modifications, Occupational Therapy, Case Management, Community Outreach and Education, and Information and Referral. By assessing home safety risks, addressing fall hazards, installing rails, and improving lighting conditions, CAA helps prevent accidents  team can also evaluate additional needs such as occupational therapy and teach new skills to help seniors improve daily activity performance.

In addition, CAA provides resources to help seniors save money on energy costs and connects them with benefits and services across the city.

Position Summary

The Intern will provide ongoing support and expertise to older adult clients through comprehensive assessment, planning, intervention, and overall evaluation of individual client needs. Responsibilities include attending community meetings and events to learn about available resources and training opportunities, engaging with senior groups, creating seasonal educational newsletters, organizing social engagement opportunities, writing event proposals, and coordinating with other organizations to secure event locations and donations.

Interns will also shadow program staff, participate in outreach events, conduct home visits, distribute resources door‑to‑door, and attend planning and advisory board meetings.

Qualifications

Members must be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program at a four‑year college or university, preferably in human services management, social work, health systems management, social sciences (e.g., anthropology, sociology, political science), public administration, or non‑profit management. This internship is ideal for students interested in community‑based services and elder care.
