Baltimore Community Foundation (BCF) is a philanthropic foundation created by and for the people of Greater Baltimore, where many donors join together to make the city and region we love a better place, today and for future generations. With assets over $350 million comprised of more than 950 charitable funds, BCF has granted nearly $800 million since its inception in 1972 and is one of the Baltimore region’s top foundations.
Accredited by the Council on Foundation’s National Standards for U.S. Community Foundations, BCF partners with philanthropic individuals, families and companies to direct more than 5,000 gifts and grants each year to support a wide range of issues affecting the Baltimore region. With a team of less than 25 core staff members, BCF’s is a small team that embraces reliability, hard-work, fun and accountability.
Over the last several years, BCF has doubled its assets under management and has elevated its role as one of the region’s most prominent civic leaders, grantors and impact investors. In anticipation of the launch of its new strategic direction in 2027, BCF is poised for greater growth and impact to leverage a community of passionate donors and changemakers working to build a better Baltimore.
PositionThe Vice President of Advancement will work closely with the President/CEO to align operations and strategic priorities and to garner support for BCF’s ambitious goals benefiting the Baltimore community. The Vice President of Advancement will be primarily responsible for structuring, implementing and monitoring an effective development and stewardship operation which includes soliciting gifts for new philanthropic funds; driving and managing development and donor services related operations;
launching a philanthropic advisory; overseeing BCF’s annual Civic Leadership Fund; generating legacy gifts; growing BCF’s discretionary endowment; and overseeing strategies to engage donors and prospects at every level. The success of this role involves both internal management and external responsibilities across the following areas:
- Philanthropic Advising and Fundraising – 35%
- Leadership and Strategy – 25%
- Development Systems and Infrastructure – 15%
- Management and Administration – 15%
- Cross-Departmental Alignment and Execution – 10%
An experienced and accomplished candidate with transferable skills and a strong track record will be considered.
Salary Range: $175,000 - $195,000 annually
Location: Baltimore, Maryland
Classification: Full-time, Exempt
Work Arrangement: Hybrid (minimum 3 days per week in-office)
Paid Time Off: 20 days annually for vacation, personal, and sick leave

Responsibilities- Leads BCF’s development strategy, which concentrates on acquiring, engaging and advising new and existing donors, building new prospect channels, raising gifts for BCF’s annual development goals, growing the organization’s unrestricted endowment, and making appropriate use of the President/CEO, Board of Trustees and staff in the achievement thereof;
- Collaborates to structure, align and monitor the organizational strategy for donor stewardship and philanthropic advising;
- Contributes to building BCF’s pipeline of major and legacy donors and prospects;
- Works effectively with the President/CEO and other departments to drive quality assurance and an outstanding donor experience;
- Ensures that BCF effectively and systematically cultivates high net worth prospective donors and their professional advisors;
- Ensures, in collaboration with colleagues and other parties, the advancement of donor goals which can include investments, philanthropic advising, impact investing, structuring bequests, and other special considerations;
- Seeks new opportunities to increase BCF’s visibility with prospective donors and their advisors;
