Conservation Community Coordinator

The National Aquarium is seeking a Conservation Community Coordinator to work closely with the residents of local communities to encourage and ultimately engage them in specific projects focused on improving environmental conditions within their communities; empower and train them to become leaders within their community and stewards of the environment; and connect them to opportunities to participate in local conservation efforts at local restoration and conservation areas.

In addition to community-related work, the Community Coordinator will be responsible for implementation of work plan including partner communication and reporting; tracking of all technical and financial aspects of the project including budgets; communication of results through technical and lay presentations; evaluation of project results and preparation of summary reports including detailed financial reporting; and coordinating multiple projects, each in different phases at once.

Responsibilities include:

• Coordinating implementation of assigned Conservation projects including developing implementation plans, tracking budgets, acquiring resources, cultivating and maintaining new partnerships, and internal and external reporting.
• Developing and maintaining relationships with community members and community leaders in order to actively engage them in local projects
• Maintaining relationships with stakeholders and partner organizations to leverage resources and build opportunities for community engagement
• Motivating and mobilizing community members and leaders to participate in local community conservation activities and projects
• Attending select community, stakeholder and partner meetings in order to foster relationships and provide updates to both community members and project staff
• Leading and engaging community members and leaders in a series of outreach events, focusing on environmental improvements to the community and connecting participants to local conservation efforts
• Recruiting and training community members to become leaders within the community
• Leading conservation programs in and adjacent to target communities and projects
• Conducting evaluation of project results and preparation of summary reports including financial reporting and summary assessment of results in light of project objectives and grant requirements.
• Managing multiple projects at once, requiring ability to address multiple tasks in different project phases, strong time management, effective communication both internally and externally and strong planning skills.
• Working collaboratively with the Director of Conservation Community Engagement in the preparation of grant proposals for Conservation Programs according to guidelines of granting agency
• Participating in Conservation Department Staff meetings
• Managing unpaid staff including interns, Aquarium Conservation Team volunteers and other episodic volunteers as directed by the Director of Conservation Community Engagement.
• Organizing and participating in Conservation internal and external meetings/events and other ad hoc meetings as necessary.
• Receptionist duties: correspondence, meeting and travel arrangements.
• Implementing special projects as needed.

Qualifications/Basic

Job Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in environmental science, social science or related field preferred. Should have experience working within diverse, underserved communities. Must have strong leadership and management skills. Must be able to drive passenger vans and perform strenuous field activities, including but not limited to: lifting 30lbs (with or without assistance), reaching, pushing, and digging. Should be prepared to perform in various outdoor terrains and weather conditions.

Should be able to work weekends, evenings and holidays.
