Main Purpose of Job

The Registered Nurse Manager has responsibility for planning and coordinating provision of services in the NAO Office and throughout the hospital on an assigned shift. This position directly supervises the Central Staffing Coordinator on the assigned shift. The Registered Nurse Manager addresses administrative and clinical issues in the absence of the ADON, and may provide direct nursing care as needed. Additionally, this position collaborates with the ADON or Chief Nursing Officer to nursing in the implementation of the department’s philosophy, objectives, standards, policies/procedures, and nursing practices.

This position is for the evening shift which operates from 4:00 PM to 12:30 AM.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Education:

    A Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or a health‑related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Experience:

    Four years of experience as a Registered Nurse, including two years in a supervisory, administrative or consultative capacity and two years in a psychiatric setting.
  • Notes:
    • Candidates may substitute the possession of a Master’s degree in Nursing or a health‑related field from an accredited college or university and two years of experience as a Registered Nurse in a psychiatric setting for the required education and experience.
    • Candidates may substitute six years of experience as a Registered Nurse, including three years in a supervisory, administrative or teaching capacity in a psychiatric setting for the required education and experience.
    • Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in nursing classifications or nursing and hospital administration specialty codes in the nursing field of work on a year‑for‑year basis for the required experience and education.

  • Experience interpreting and enforcing policies and procedures in order to provide quality care.
  • Experience appraising staff’s performance through coaching, counseling and discipline.
  • Experience providing clinical and leadership skills to diverse staff in order to provide high quality patient care.
Licenses, Registrations and Certifications
  • Must possess a current license as a Registered Nurse from the Maryland Board of Nursing or a current multi‑state license declared as primary residence.
  • Employees may be assigned duties that require operation of a motor vehicle and must possess a valid motor vehicle operator’s license in Maryland.
  • Employees may be required to successfully complete and maintain current certification of cardiopulmonary resuscitation training.

  • Employees are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 17.04.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.
