Job Overview
University of Maryland Medical Center is recruiting a Nurse Practitioner for the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS) team at the downtown Baltimore, MD campus. This full‑time position focuses on inpatient and outpatient services, caring for head and neck cancer patients from perioperative to post‑operative period, including post‑op/wound care clinic, oncology nurse navigation, and future survivorship clinic opportunities.
Requirements- Previous (>1‑year) APP experience preferred.
- Experience in oncology practice preferred.
- Acute care certification required.
- Minimum of one year as a Registered Nurse.
- DEA and CDS eligible.
- Certified in specialty; BCLS required.
- Monday‑Friday
- 40 hours per week
- 6:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Under general supervision, responsible for diagnosing and treating patients in collaboration with physician colleagues. Provide continuity of care by coordinating communication among the health‑care team, patient, and family. Integrate research and best practices into patient care.

Clinical Responsibilities- Collaborate with attending physician for day‑to‑day clinical leadership.
- Perform comprehensive history, physical assessment, and diagnostic ordering.
- Establish medical diagnosis and design treatment plans including prescriptions.
- Initiate protocols/clinical pathways and evaluate plan of care.
- Perform invasive procedures.
- Collaborate with attendings and residents on admission, discharge, and transfer decisions.
- Present patients on rounds.
- Communicate plan of care with providers, patients, families, and case managers.
- Educate patients/families and provide preventive care services.
- Initiate appropriate referrals and specialty consultations.
- Facilitate patient flow and collaborate with multidisciplinary team.
- Provide specialty consultation and advocate for patients.
- Consider holistic needs and orchestrate resources (pain service, palliative care).
- Perform other activities as delineated in written agreements.
- Provide formal/informal educational programs for staff.
- Participate in mentoring activities and precept students.
- Promote understanding of disease processes in specialty program.
- Serve as clinical resource for interns, residents, fellows, nurses, and students.
- Provide community health education, promotion, and outreach.
- Coordinate adequate nurse practitioner coverage on the service.
- Work with physician leaders and administration to achieve outcome targets.
- Participate in performance improvement activities.
- Develop clinical pathways and lead quality assurance activities.
- Advance patient care delivery through research and best practice.
- Advise on hospital policy and procedures and evaluate new care delivery systems.
- Participate in departmental meetings and initiatives.
- Maintain compliance and regulatory documentation.
- Participate in accreditation readiness and supervise ancillary staff.
- Model customer service focus to internal and external customers.
- Demonstrate respect for all people.
- Ensure confidentiality of patient information.
- Serve on department, hospital, and community committees.
- Maintain professional licensure, certification, and collaborative agreement.
- Participate in educational opportunities (journal clubs, grand rounds).
- Present at professional organizations.
- Pursue educational opportunities (CEU, conferences).
- Promote the organization and act as spokesperson.
- Serve as clinical trial sub investigator and coordinate industry‑sponsored research.
- Doctoral‑prepared nurse practitioners expected to conduct nursing research.
Master of Science Degree with completion of a primary‑care Nurse Practitioner program;
Registered and recorded with the Maryland Board of Examiners of Nurses, certified as a Nurse Practitioner; certified in specialty; DEA and CDS eligible; BCLS required; minimum of one year as a Registered Nurse; active participation in professional organizations and evidence of teaching, research, publishing, or certification; strong communication and interpersonal skills; up‑to‑date hospital safety training and immunizations; ability to apply principles of growth and development over the lifespan.
