Job Description
Delivers a comprehensive school health services program for all Baltimore County Public Schools students. Leads the school's health services program, collaborates with school staff to ensure services are coordinated and integrated, provides health consultation to the principal and health services to employees for acute illness and injuries, and performs other duties as assigned.
Responsibilities- Administers first aid for injury and illness.
- Administers medications and health care treatments.
- Identifies health barriers to student achievement and works with school staff and families to remediate those barriers; assists the principal and staff to improve student attendance and achievement.
- Provides and coordinates health care interventions, including emergency responses.
- Develops a plan of care for students with chronic health conditions.
- Assesses the health needs of the school community.
- Coordinates health matters between the health care provider, family, and the school.
- Conducts, coordinates, and follows up health screening programs.
- Maintains school health records, including ensuring compliance with state health mandates for school attendance.
- Monitors the spread of communicable diseases; develops and implements strategies to control the spread.
- Promotes a safe and orderly school environment.
- Provides health counseling and health education to optimize students' ability to make healthy choices, manage chronic health conditions, and prepare them to make informed healthcare decisions.
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with an associate’s degree in nursing.
- Two years of professional nursing experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing preferred; candidate will be required to complete the bachelor’s degree within five years of employment.
- Valid license to practice registered nursing (RN) issued by the Maryland Board of Nursing.
- Current CPR certification.
- Knowledge of the nursing process.
- Knowledge of pathophysiology and nursing management of common acute and chronic health conditions of the school population.
- Knowledge of the tools, instruments, and equipment used in nursing.
- Knowledge of current health issues and trends.
- Skill in the provision of a variety of nursing care services.
- Skill in the monitoring and assessment of patients' health care needs and services.
- Skill in the preparation and maintenance of records.
- Skill in verbal and written communication, including interdisciplinary and multicultural communication.
- Skill in the use of computers, word processing, database, patient care documentation, and spreadsheet software packages.
- Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with students, parents, and BCPS supervisors and administrators.
- Ability to maintain confidential and sensitive information and records.
- Ability to apply the nursing process in the community setting.
Work may include walking, standing, lifting, operating medical equipment and instruments, and traveling throughout the County.
Conditions of EmploymentMay be required to work beyond scheduled hours with little or no advanced notice. Must obtain a bachelor’s degree in nursing within five years of employment; failure may result in termination.

Salary$76,309 – $143,653 (Valid until 12/31/2025)

Position may be eligible for relocation bonus, extra duty activities pay, or other student activities pay as defined in the applicable Bargaining Unit Agreement.
