Job Description
Delivers a comprehensive school health services program for all Baltimore County Public Schools (BCPS) students. Collaborates with others in the school to ensure that health services are coordinated and integrated with the school program. Provides health consultation to the principal and health services to employees for acute illness and injuries. Performs other duties as assigned.
Responsibilities- Administers first aid for injury and illness. Administers medications and health care treatments.
- Identifies health barriers to student achievement and works with school staff and families to remediate those barriers. Assists the principal and staff to improve student attendance and achievement.
- Provides and coordinates health care interventions, including emergency responses.
- Develops a plan of care for students with chronic health conditions.
- Assesses the health needs of the school community.
- Coordinates health matters between the health care provider, family, and the school.
- Conducts, coordinates, and follows up health screening programs.
- Maintains school health records, ensuring compliance with state health mandates for school attendance.
- Monitors the spread of communicable diseases and develops and implements strategies to control their spread.
- Promotes a safe and orderly school environment.
- Provides health counseling and health education to optimize students’ ability to make healthy choices, manage chronic health conditions, and prepare them to make informed healthcare decisions.
Education, Training and Experience
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with an associate’s degree in nursing.
- Two years of professional nursing experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing preferred. Candidates required to complete the bachelor’s degree in nursing within five years of employment.
Licenses and Certificates
- Valid license to practice registered nursing (RN) issued by the Maryland Board of Nursing.
- Current CPR certification.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of the nursing process, pathophysiology, and nursing management of common acute and chronic health conditions of the school population; knowledge of tools, instruments, and equipment used in nursing; knowledge of current health issues and trends. Skill in providing a variety of nursing care services; monitoring and assessing patients’ health care needs; preparation and maintenance of records; verbal and written communication, including interdisciplinary and multicultural communication;
computer and software skills. Ability to maintain confidential and sensitive information and records; apply the nursing process in the community setting; establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, and BCPS supervisors and administrators.
The work may include walking, standing, lifting, operating medical equipment and instruments, and traveling throughout the County.
Conditions of EmploymentMay be required to work beyond normal scheduled hours with little or no advanced notice. Must obtain a bachelor’s degree in nursing within five years of employment; failure to meet this requirement may result in termination.
Compensation and BenefitsGrade: 10 – Month Pay Scale – Effective January 1, 2026 Salary: $61,028 – $120,717 Other compensation may include relocation bonus, extra duty activities pay, or other student activities pay as defined in the applicable Bargaining Unit Agreement. FLSA:
