The Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist will work with the interprofessional healthcare team to deliver high‑quality anesthesia within a Care Team Model. The CRNA will care for patients across all acuity levels through the lifespan in a variety of settings including surgical, obstetrical, and diagnostic areas.

Education
  • Eligible for certification under the National Board on Certification and Recertification of Nurse Anesthetists (NBCRNA) after completing an accredited CRNA training program and, if certified, enrolled in a Continued Professional Certification (CPC) program.
  • Graduate of a Nurse Anesthesia Program accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs or its predecessor.

  • 5 years’ experience preferred.

Skills
  • Advanced understanding of anesthesia, perioperative medicine, and other critical‑care skills related to the perioperative environment.
  • Demonstrated patient care skills in alignment with GBMC values.
Licensures and Certifications
  • BLS, ACLS and PALS required.
  • Holds current active state licensure in the state of Maryland and complies with all applicable state statutory and regulatory requirements pertaining to CRNAs.
  • Currently certified or recertified by the National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists and is enrolled in the Continued Professional Certification (CPC) program.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provides anesthesiology services within the hospital, including pre‑operative review of patients and provision of anesthetics in all procedural areas (operating rooms, interventional radiology, endoscopy units, and Labor and Delivery) in a care‑team model.
  • Selects, orders, and administers anesthetics, adjuvant drugs, accessory drugs, fluids, or blood products.
  • Manages patients’ airway or pulmonary status using techniques such as endotracheal intubation and extubation, mechanical ventilation, pharmacological support, and respiratory therapy.
  • Selects, prepares, or uses equipment, monitors, supplies, or drugs for the administration of anesthetics.
  • Performs pre‑anesthetic screenings including physical evaluations and patient interviews, and documents results.
  • Monitors patients’ responses including skin color, pupil dilation, pulse, heart rate, blood pressure, respiration, ventilation, or urine output using invasive and non‑invasive techniques.
  • Responds to emergency situations by providing airway management, administering emergency fluids or drugs, or using basic or advanced cardiac life support techniques.
  • Performs or manages regional anesthetic techniques such as local, spinal, epidural, caudal, nerve blocks and intravenous blocks.
  • Collaborates with the attending physician anesthesiologist.
  • Develops anesthesia care plans.
  • Obtains informed consent from patients for anesthesia procedures.
  • Assesses patients’ medical histories to predict anesthesia response.
  • Performs and evaluates the results of diagnostic tests such as radiographs (x‑rays) and electrocardiograms (EKGs).
  • Evaluates patients’ post‑surgical or post‑anesthesia responses, taking appropriate corrective actions or requesting consultation if complications occur.
  • Administers post‑anesthesia medications or fluids to support patients’ cardiovascular systems.
  • Discharges patients from post‑anesthesia care.
