Job SummaryA Licensed Practical Nurse (10 months) provides practical nursing care to patients and clients under the direction of a physician or a registered nurse. The work involves no supervisory duties. Incumbents receive moderate supervision from a technical superior and may work rotating shifts, including evenings and weekends, in a clinic, office, or client’s home. Work may expose employees to illness, disease, and stressful conditions and requires minimal physical exertion.
Minimum QualificationsOn or before the filing date, each candidate must:
- Have at least two years of experience as a licensed practical nurse.
- Hold current licensure as a practical nurse in the State of Maryland, or licensure from a Multi‑State Licensure Compact participant state.

Eligible candidates for positions of trust must complete a Criminal Background Check and/or Fingerprint authorization.
ProbationAll persons, including current City employees, chosen for this position must complete a mandatory six‑month probation.
EligibilityQualified candidates will be considered for vacancies as they arise, for at least six months. The Director of Human Resources has final discretion on acceptable minimum qualifications.
Education AccreditationApplicants’ education must be from an accredited institution. Credentials from outside the US must be evaluated for US equivalency using agencies such as those listed es.org.
Selection ProcessAll candidates who meet the minimum qualifications will be placed on the eligible list. Their training and experience will be evaluated for appropriateness and quantity; complete and accurate application information is essential. Qualified candidates are not ranked.
Examination ProcessApplicants must provide sufficient information on their application to demonstrate the minimum qualifications. Successful applicants are placed on the employment‑certified eligible list for at least six months. The examination will rating education, training, and experience and may include supplemental questions to assess specific knowledge, skills, and abilities.
