The University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC) is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Neurosurgery Nurse Practitioner (NP) to join our dynamic and fast-paced Neurosurgery team. This is a unique opportunity to practice at a leading academic medical center and contribute to advanced, life‑saving care in collaboration with nationally recognized experts.

About

The Role

As a Neurosurgery NP at UMMC, you will play a critical role in providing comprehensive care for neurosurgical patients across the continuum—from evaluation and acute management to post‑operative care. You will work closely with attending neurosurgeons, residents, and interdisciplinary teams in a high‑acuity environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage inpatient neurosurgical patients in collaboration with physicians and care teams
  • Perform comprehensive neurological assessments and post‑operative management
  • First assist in surgical procedures (based on privileging)
  • Coordinate care for complex neurosurgical patients
  • Participate in multidisciplinary rounds and treatment planning
  • Provide education and support to patients and families
Minimum Qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program (AGACNP preferred)
  • Active Maryland NP license and DEA (or eligibility)
  • Board certification as a Nurse Practitioner
  • Strong clinical background in acute care, ICU, neurology, or neurosurgery preferred
  • Excellent critical thinking, communication, and teamwork skills
Preferred Experience
  • Prior neurosurgery, neurology, or surgical subspecialty experience
  • Exposure to high‑acuity inpatient or ICU environments
  • Academic medical center experience preferred
  • Ability to manage complex and rapidly changing clinical situations
