Position Summary: The Manager-Patient Care Services oversees the Operating Room at Sinai Hospital of Baltimore, including the main/general operating room (GOR), cardiac (COR), orthopedic OR (RIAO OR), Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC), and GI Diagnostic Center (GIDC). The OR Nurse Manager has 4 assistant nurse manager direct reports and up to 155 FTEs across Perioperative Services. The role ensures safe, age-appropriate patient care during unit operation and acts as a role model, advisor, resource, and leader for the patient care team.
EssentialFunctions
- Clinical Management: Provides overall direction for and coordination of unit operations, maintains basic nursing skills as required by specialty area, demonstrates proficiency in clinical/ethical/legal aspects surrounding patient care, develops strategic target plans for unit outcomes and customer service goals, supports hospital mission and vision, promotes teamwork, collaborates interdepartmentally, conducts departmental meetings, and purposefully rounds on assigned patients.
- Leadership/Resource Management: Ensures appropriate utilization of resources and skill mix, schedules staff to meet patient and departmental needs on a 24-hour basis, serves as Chief Retention Officer, prioritizes unit activities, and evaluates staff through objective performance criteria.
- Performance Improvement: Establishes and maintains processes for ongoing care delivery evaluation, collaborates with multidisciplinary groups to design and implement unit process improvements, incorporates standards of practice into improvement plans, sets benchmarks, monitors compliance, investigates adverse events using Just Culture principles, and contributes to policy and procedure development.
- Fiscal Management: Manages and prepares operations and capital budgets, collaborates with leadership to develop realistic financial plans, analyzes budget variances, monitors productivity, and educates staff on resource allocation.
- Compliance: Ensures staff awareness and compliance with patient safety, policies, and regulatory requirements, communicates expectations for new standards, monitors compliance, and implements action plans for areas out of compliance.
- Professional Development: Supports an environment of accountability for professional growth, collaborates on orientation and staff development plans, encourages participation in committees and councils, assists staff with clinical ladder advancement, specialty certification, and educational opportunities, and provides feedback through the Peer Review Process.
- Basic professional knowledge equivalent to a Bachelor's degree and working knowledge of theory and practice within a specialized field.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from a CCNE accredited School of Nursing; a master’s degree (MSN, MS, MA, MHA, or MBA) is preferred.
- 3–5 years progressive nursing experience in the OR with preference for demonstrated progression in supervisory responsibilities.
- Maryland Registered Nurse License (RN).
- American Heart Association BLS Certification.
- National certification preferred within one year of hire.
