Medical Support Specialist (Plasma Center Nurse) – Overview
Support daily operations of a Bio Life Plasma Collection Center in Baltimore, MD, ensuring donor eligibility, safety, and quality of plasma collection.
Responsibilities- Determine donor eligibility, manage donor adverse events, review laboratory results, and notify donors of unsuitable test results.
- Conduct informed consent, AIDS education, medical history interviews, physical examinations, blood testing, and review of serological protein electrophoresis (SPE).
- Evaluate donor reactions, follow SOPs for medical emergencies, and coordinate care with the Center Physician.
- Refer to the Center Physician or Medical Affairs for unacceptable findings or medical/technical issues.
- Support Hepatitis B and seasonal flu vaccination programs for employees.
- Manage employee incidents, determine further evaluation, and consult EHS guidance.
- Act as Pandemic Coordinator when authorized by EHS to investigate pandemic threats.
- High school diploma or equivalent, or graduate certification from a recognized nursing program with state requirements.
- Current state license or certification:
Registered Nurse (RN), Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA). - Current CPR and AED certification.
- State licensure for basic IV therapy.
- Completion of FDA‑approved training for Bio Life Medical Support Specialist.
- Two years’ clinical or hospital experience.
