DescriptionUtilizes a collaborative process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation to engage, educate, promote, and maintain optimal health status of assigned patients. Functions in a collaborative partnership with the patient, physician, and the care team in an ambulatory care setting. Serves in an advocacy role to ensure the delivery of quality, efficient, and cost-effective patient centered health care services; and other duties as assigned.
In addition to RN duties, this individual will provide quality patient care by building screening programs for aortic disease (e.g. aneurysm, aortic valve repair/replacement, Ross procedure) and pulmonary thromboendarterectomy patients. Work closely with physicians to identify initial qualifications for the programs. Identify patients within our population who meet the program criteria, sent out letters, schedule pre-visit testing, and conduct after care with patients.
Catalog the entire process from an academic standpoint.
Works cooperatively within own department and with other services to create a system of quality health care delivery. Demonstrates positive and effective working relationships with all health care team members.
- Completes patient assessments and triages, records patient histories, symptoms, and observations.
- Establishes and implements nursing care plans for each patient through assessment, development, and evaluation of the nursing process.
- Administers injections, provides wound care, and performs catheterizations and point of care testing as needed.
- Administers medications and intravenous solutions safely and correctly. Manages, monitors, and adjusts doses based on protocols and physician instructions.
- Works with patients and families to explain post-treatment care needs and provide follow-up through teaching and referral to external resources.
- Identifies patient care issues, assists in data gathering, proposes solutions, and participates in the evaluation of quality assurance issues.
- Serves as a resource to Medical Assistants by proving guidance, education, and mentorship. Delegates appropriately to ensure optimal patient care. When necessary, assists with the flow of patient care and performs duties of Medical Assistant.
- Provides ongoing assurance of functional emergency equipment and adequate emergency drug supplies. Responds to emergency situations effectively throughout the practice.
- Bachelor's Degree, Associate's Degree, or diploma in Nursing from an accredited institution
- Current Maryland licensure or eligibility to obtain Maryland licensure
- Excellent customer service and communication skills
- Two to three years clinical experience preferred
- CPR certification is required
The referenced base salary range represents the low and high end of University of Maryland’s Faculty Physician’s Inc. salary range for this position.
Some candidates will not be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. Exact salary will ultimately depend on multiple factors, which may include the successful candidate's geographic location, skills, work experience, market conditions, internal equity, responsibility factor and span of control, education/training and other qualifications.
