Nurse Practitioner
The University of Maryland Medical Center is seeking a compassionate and collaborative Nurse Practitioner to join our inpatient Palliative Care team within a high-acuity academic medical center environment. This position offers the opportunity to work alongside an interdisciplinary team providing specialized care to patients with serious and complex illnesses. The Nurse Practitioner will support symptom management, goals-of-care discussions, advance care planning, and patient/family support while collaborating closely with physicians, nursing staff, social work, chaplaincy, and consulting services.
Our palliative care team plays a vital role in delivering patient-centered, evidence-based care across a diverse inpatient population within one of the region's leading academic health systems. This is a weekend position supporting our palliative and comfort care patients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide inpatient palliative care consultations and follow-up care
- Provide appropriate comfort care and hospice care to inpatient patients and families
- Provide compassionate and sensitive support and communication with patients, families, and health care teams regarding terminal illness and disease processes
- In-depth understanding of palliative care principles, hospice philosophy, hospice eligibility and end of life care
- Conduct comprehensive patient assessments and develop treatment plans
- Assist with symptom management and pain management strategies and plans
- Facilitate goals-of-care and advance care planning discussions
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes
- Support patients and families through complex medical decision-making
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation within the electronic medical record
- Knowledgeable on palliative and hospice quality measures
- Dayshift part time weekend position
Qualifications:
- Master's or Doctoral degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program
- Nurse Practitioner licensed in the state of Maryland
- National board certification required
- DEA and CDS registration preferred or eligible
- Prior inpatient, palliative care, hospice experience required
- Minimum 3 years nurse practitioner experience required; must have at least 2 years of palliative and or hospice experience
- Strong communication and interdisciplinary collaboration skills
