Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner

Job Summary:

A Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP), under the medical direction of a physician or agency Medical Director, performs professional, consultative and administrative behavioral health services for a City agency emergency medical services program. Work of this class involves no supervisory duties.

Incumbents receive general supervision from a technical superior. Employees in this class work a conventional workweek. Work is performed primarily in an office or administrative setting and may include fire stations, field operations, community meetings and partner agency sites. Work requires minimal physical exertion.

Minimum Qualifications

On or before the date of filing the application, each candidate must:

Requirements - Master's Degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university and a minimum of three years of behavioral health, psychiatric, emergency services, public safety, military, disaster response, or related clinical experience, Or 1 year of experience managing behavioral health programs, peer support programs, wellness initiatives, or crisis intervention services.

AND

Licenses, Registrations and Certificates:

Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Maryland or Registered Nurse licensure in a Multi-State Compact participant state and Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in Maryland is required at time of appointment. Certification as a Nurse Practitioner, with psychiatric-mental health or behavioral health specialty certification (PMHNP-BC) is required and must be maintained in accordance with Maryland Board of Nursing requirements.

A valid Maryland Class C Noncommercial driver's license or an equivalent out-of-state license is required.

Note:

If practicing on a Multi-State Compact Registered Nurse License, the nurse must obtain an advance practice certification issued by the Maryland State Board of Nursing.

• Knowledge of psychiatry and psychiatric health principles and practices.
• Knowledge of occupational stress injuries and psychiatric health issues affecting public safety personnel.
• Knowledge of crisis intervention, trauma recovery, suicide prevention, and resilience programs.
• Ability to develop and manage complex wellness and psychiatric health initiatives.
• Skilled in program leadership and optimization.
• Skilled in organization and interpersonal communication.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries.
• Ability to work effectively with Department leadership, labor organizations, healthcare providers, and community partners.
• Ability to function effectively during emergencies and high-stress situations.

Probation

All people, including current City employees, selected for this position must complete a mandatory one-year probation.

Eligibility

Qualified candidates will be considered for vacancies as they arise, for a period of at least six months. The decision of the Director of Human Resources with respect to acceptable minimum qualifications is final.

Education Accreditation
