American Traveler is hiring an Oncology RN for an infusion center role requiring 2+ years of oncology/infusion experience and an active MD or Compact RN license.
Details- Work in an oncology infusion center connected to an oncology urgent care for add-on patients and provider assessments
- Patient ratio of 1:6-7
- 4x10 day shifts, 7:00 AM-5:30 PM
- Every other weekend required
- No on-call responsibilities
- Floating required within specialty and acuity, with travelers prioritized to float
- Uses Epic charting system
- Active MD or Compact RN license required
- BLS and ACLS certification required (AHA only)
- Chemo certification (ONS/ONCC) preferred
- NIHSS and ONS/ONCC certifications preferred
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Epic charting experience required
- Strong oncology and infusion experience required
- Prior travel nursing experience required
- Previous charge nurse experience preferred
- Skilled in IV therapy, infusion administration, and port access/management
- Experience administering chemotherapy via IV push, oral, and monitoring methods
- Experience administering blood products and coagulation factors
- Central line and PICC line care experience
- Knowledge of oncologic emergencies including anaphylaxis, hemorrhage, and sepsis
- Experience caring for patients with various cancer types including breast, lung, colorectal, and blood cancers
- Skilled in symptom management including nausea/vomiting and altered mental status
- CPI certification required as part of compliance (Calm Every Storm online version accepted)
- Administer chemotherapy, electrolytes, and blood products to oncology patients
- Provide care coordination and patient/family education and support
- Recognize and communicate abnormal lab values
- Manage neutropenic precautions and isolation/PPE protocols
- Provide psychosocial care including advanced directives and hospice care discussions when needed
- Perform telephone triage as needed
- Candidates must reside 50+ miles from the hospital to be eligible unless otherwise specified
- First-time travelers accepted with strong oncology/infusion experience
- Returning travelers must have a 6-month break from the health system after completing an assignment
- Former staff members must be separated from the health system for 12 months before returning as a traveler
- Maximum 7 days RTO can be requested; more than 4 consecutive days requires an additional week added to the contract
- One major holiday off during the winter season may be accommodated depending on unit needs
