** job summary:
** a naturalist manages the maintenance and preservation of municipal nature trails and wildlife reserves. The work of this class involves no supervisory duties or responsibilities.incumbents receive general supervision from a technical superior. Employees in this class work a conventional workweek that may involve evening and weekend work. Work is performed in municipal nature trails, parks, and wildlife preserves where such conditions as the seasonal extremes of weather, poisonous plants and insects, and difficult terrain may be encountered.

Work requires moderate physical exertion when hiking, moving large plants and logs, and trapping animals.
** minimum qualifications:*

** have a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with courses in the biological or environmental sciences.

** or
* *** equivalency notes:
** graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a ged certificate and three years of experience in wildlife or nature preservation work may be substituted for the education requirement.
** licenses, registrations, and certificates:
** have a valid maryland class c noncommercial driver's license or an equivalent driver's license and eligible to obtain a baltimore city driver’s permit.
** provisional driver’s license or learner permits are not acceptable.

*** knowledge of the care of plants, trees and shrubs in a natural environment.

* ability to speak effectively.
* ability to stimulate the interest of others in natural history and natural science.
* ability to teach and lead others in the performance of their work.

* * all persons, including current city employees, selected for this position must complete a mandatory six-month probation.
